What standard fitting includes, and when it's no longer standard
For an air conditioner installation, standard means an ordinary flat: the outdoor unit is fitted from a window or balcony, on the same wall as the indoor unit, with at most 3 m of pipe run between them. That's how most bedrooms and living rooms look in Chișinău's blocks.
A job falls outside the standard when the run passes through two rooms, when the wall is thick concrete (as in some series-143 blocks), or when the outdoor unit has to be fitted somewhere that can't be reached from the flat and needs an industrial climber. We tell you the cost of this extra work upfront, not at the end.
- Laying up to 3 m of refrigerant run: the copper pipes, cable and condensate hose run between the two units (the pipe is charged per metre, see above).
- A hole through the outside wall, sloped towards the street, so condensate doesn't get into the wall.
- Fitting both units: the outdoor one on its bracket, the indoor one on its mounting plate, level.
- Vacuuming the system: we remove the air and moisture with a vacuum pump, and only then open the refrigerant from the outdoor unit.
- Test run: we connect the unit to power, switch it on and check the condensate drains away outside.
What a properly done air conditioner installation involves
A properly done air conditioner installation is more than two units fixed to a wall: a bracket fitted to a load-bearing wall, a sealed and vacuumed copper run, and a condensate drain that doesn't soak the facade.
Before opening the refrigerant, we remove the air and moisture from the pipes with a vacuum pump. This is the step rushed fitters skip, and moisture left in the run wears out the compressor much faster. We drill the hole sloped outwards and insulate every pipe joint. The hammer drill works connected to a vacuum, so you're not left with concrete dust all over the room. A 9000 or 12000 BTU unit in an ordinary flat in Botanica, Ciocana or Rîșcani is usually fitted in 2-4 hours.
Why it matters who fits the unit
A good air conditioner, badly fitted, cools poorly and breaks down fast. Fitting is often done right after a renovation, so we work clean and tell you the price upfront.

Vacuuming on every job
Many skip this step. We remove moisture from the run with a vacuum pump before starting up, so the compressor doesn't wear out before its time.

What capacity (BTU) do I need for my room?
As a rough guide, a 7000 BTU unit is enough for a room up to 20 m², a 9000 BTU one for 20-25 m², and a 12000 BTU one for 25-35 m², at a normal ceiling height of 2.5-2.7 m. If the room faces south or west, is on the top floor, or is a living room open to the kitchen, go a size up so you don't strain the compressor.
Do you fit a unit bought somewhere else?
Yes, we fit units of any make (Gree, Midea, Daikin, LG and others), bought from any shop. If you haven't bought one yet, tell us the room's size and which way the windows face: we'll tell you what capacity to look for, and you'll find out the fitting price before you order the unit.
How long does a full installation take?
A standard air conditioner installation usually takes 2-4 hours, when the outdoor unit is fitted from a window or balcony and the indoor one is on the same wall. It takes longer if the wall is very hard concrete, if the run passes through several rooms, or if the outdoor unit is fitted by an industrial climber.
When is an industrial climber needed, and how much does it cost?
When the outdoor unit has to be fixed to the facade somewhere that can't be reached from a window or balcony. The climber abseils down and fits the bracket where the fitter can't reach from inside the flat. The job costs from 2000 MDL, on top of the standard fitting; the exact amount depends on the floor and roof access.
Can you fit the outdoor unit on a facade insulated with polystyrene?
Yes, it's a very common situation in Chișinău's newer blocks. We use threaded rods and rigid spacers, so the weight of the outdoor unit (which can be over 30 kg) is carried by the concrete or brick wall, not the polystyrene layer, which would crush over time.
Can an air conditioner be fitted in autumn or winter?
Yes, fitting is done all year round, with the same vacuuming and the same checks as in summer. A unit with a heating mode, fitted in autumn, heats the room from day one, and in May-June, when everyone wants fitting done, booking usually takes longer. When it's freezing outside, we run the test start-up on heating, not cooling.
Do you also do cleaning or refrigerant top-ups?
Yes. We recommend a full clean once a year: we wash the filters, disinfect the indoor coil so the unpleasant smell goes away, and check the refrigerant pressure. If the unit isn't cooling like it used to, we look for a leak first and only then top up the refrigerant, right at your home.
